I know there is a book out there, but did the book come first or was the book based off the movie? And if the movie was based on a book, are there other books out there in the series, and where could I find them?

The movie was based off the book, titled "The 10th Kingdom" by Kristine Kathryn Rusch and Dean Wesley Smith who used a pen name of Kathryn Wesley. I'm sure you can find the book on Amazon (which I just found it so it's there for sale)

There are films that have been converted but end up completely different to the books. Other director and film producers are loyal and stay by the book. Good example is Lord of the RIngs, it is a good movie but the background is entirely different to the book. The book contains magic and spells, whereas in the film it is mostly action like the Middle Ages. However, because the film was such a success, most people forgot the book and only mention the films which is a pity, especially for the author. Harry Potter again is a famous series of books that have been made to movies. Probably the most famous blockbuster of the naughties, it was an instant hit. However, because it is a series, over the years, critics have stated that some the films were missing vital details of the books, such as the latest half-blood prince. It was never mentioned that Snape's nickname which was the half blood prince was taken from his mothers surname. This left a lot of viewers who had not read the book, puzzled over why he chose that nickname. Again, the films were a success, however though people knew the books exsisted, many were not bothered to read the books. Inkheart was another film from a book, the famous series following with Inkspell and Inkdeath. The books were a instant success however the film was a disatrous, both critics and audience. This put a stain on the reputation of the book, which again was annoying for the author. THe same goes for the Secret of Moonacre and the Golden Compass, originally written by Philip Pullman. Keep in mind that depending on the Director and producer they will base the book to film differently.

Yes there was a book to go along with it but also a soundtrack that they only sold after the show was aired. They had rumours about making another one but they never stuck to the plan.
