Whenever we had newts, we fed them live blood worms, this was a little expensive getting the live ones, but they loved them! They would stick their noses up at anything else we would give them. The other thing we fed them was the freeze dried blood worm cubes that would seperate when in water. But the best thing to do is ask the pet store you get your newts from - they should know!

Check with your local pet store. They should have these little biscuit things called Monkey Biscuits. I had an Iguana once and I fed him this biscuits with vitamins sprinkled on them. Newts may eat mealworms also.

You can give them bloodworms but they also like crickets. They eat live insects in the wild, so it makes them feel more at home.
