Welcome to being an adult. It SUCKS.

It's all part of growing up. But if you break it down, you're not alone at all.

You have to chose a college. Do you not have guidance counselors or teachers to talk to? Friends who are already in college? College advisors? Of course you do. Make use of their expertise.

You have to get a job alone. No you don't. You can go to an employment agency. You'll have people who can help you there. You'll have people to work with once you get hired. You'll make friends with some of them. Go out to lunch, start a bowling team, a baseball team - something fun.

You have stuff to get for yourself. What stuff? Clothes, books, electronic equipment, furniture? If you don't want to bring a friend along to the stores, you can talk to the salespeople. Ask their opinions.

I think you're really feeling alone because you broke up with someone you cared about. There must be someone you can talk to about this. Are you parents living? (I hope so) Other family or friends? If you have never met another person in your entire life whom you consider a friend, call your local mental health association and find a therapy group. They can help you to develop interpersonal skills that you will need as an adult. Once you start feeling a bit better, join a club, book group, something fun. Whatever you like - hiking, photography, reading, gardening, cars, I don't know! Whatever! Get out there and have some fun with other people.

Being on your own is not a problem. It's called being an adult. Being lonely is something else. But now you can start to address that. And just look at all the people here who are trying to help. You are not alone.

Best of luck and happiness to you.

Whether you believe this or not, you are not alone. Everyone you surround yourself with including your parents will be there for you if you need their help and you just have to ask for it.

Getting a job is not that hard but the trick is to network with all of your friends and relatives.

When you break up with someone your friends will be there for you if they are really your friends and even if they aren't, your parents will be.

As far as selecting a college, that is something that you are going to have to do on your own, because everyone will be trying to pressure you into making a decision that could be a mistake.

Keep in mind that everyone at some point in their lives went through or is going to go through the same things.

You are on your own, because you choose to be so. When/If you ever desire help, I'm sure you will find it. This isn't so abnormal. Many people choose to be on their own. Some only from time to time, and others choose so as a way of life. Some very exceptional people are in this club. Sir Isaac Newton, for example, never married, never formed a relationship and probably died a virgin.

Honey, I picked my college, found my own job, pay my rent, pay for my college, and pay my own bills. I've never had things done for me. Every new graduate feels anxiety about the future. This is a normal part of life. You are going to have to learn to be independent. Everyone has to go through this at some point. It sounds like you have some growing up to do.

That's the best thing that can happen to you in your life!
To get to the stage when you wake up being ALONE.
It is a powerful learning experience - an amazing one!
Enjoy the freedom and be aware that everybody, all adults are like you: they are alone.

:-)

Well if you are picking a college it probably means that you are old enought to have your own life. Your parents are there to guide you but they will not control your life like they did when you were five. It helps to talk to someone when you brake up.

Welcome to the real world where you do everything on your own. Just remember those days when you told your parents that you wanted to move out when you weren't old enough. Now look what you are going through. Life really sucks when you are on your own sometimes.

It's not being on your own...it's being an adult and having to take responsibility for yourself. If someone else were to make these decisions for you, you'd hate it ever more.
