The car is in Germany. Is there a place in Germany that does this? Smart cars are made by Deimler-Chrystler

This would cost $$$ and is a custom repair. Any knowledgeable diesel repair facility can do this. All emission control devices will be changed/added to north American standards. In addition, the diesel fuel is much dirtier here and additives will be required to prevent your injection pump failure. When you include the price of freight... It is cheaper to buy a new one here.

The Smart car is not currently approved for sale in the US. There is one importer in CA trying to get approval. A number of changes need to be made to meet US safety standards. It will be for gasoline vehicles only, if it is ever approved. The only way that you will be able to get one in the US is to buy it from that importer -- you can't ship it yourself -- unless Daimler Benz decides to certify the vehicle for US sale. Even then, it will be much cheaper to buy one legally in the US.
