What are you supposed to do with baby oil? My older child is 4 and I've still got two bottles of the stuff that came in gift baskets when she was born.

It's kind of greasy to use for dry skin and lotion seems to work better. I don't see where it would be any use for diaper rash. What's the point of the stuff?

I used it on my legs after shaving! LOL
But i think you use it on their hair! Some babies get cradle cap or just really dry heads! I believe it helps that, because you dont' really want to put lotions on their heads eh?

Good question. Really baby oil can be used for several things. Put it in your bathtub before you take a bath and it will make your skin really soft. After shaving rub it on your legs or where ever you shave and it will leave the skin nice and soft with fewer bumps. Its great for cradles cap. I have never used it for diaper rash if you want a good diaper rash ointment use one of these. Bag Balm that you get from your local feed store, or if its a severe case of diaper rash mix A&D ointment with a little bit of mallox (heartburn relief) mix the two together and it makes the silkiest paste you have ever felt. Its so good for thier tender little booties. Back to your question though. You probably won't use it a whole lot on the baby so pamper yourself (you probably need it) and use it in your bath and if you can get your husband or boyfriend to do it get him to give you a massage with it. That is the best idea.

How to Use
For Infant Massage: Using firm but gentle strokes all over baby, massage a small amount of JOHNSON'S® Baby Oil into baby's skin. Clinical studies show that 15 minutes a day of infant massage may help baby fall asleep faster, promote healthy weight gain and increase baby's alertness.

For You: Apply to damp skin for superior moisturizing, helping skin stay soft and smooth.

When to Use
Smooth on JOHNSON'S® Baby Oil when massaging your baby, or right after baby's bath to help seal in moisture.

I wouldn't touch my baby with baby oil...they don't need it and it's going to do nothing more than make their skin greasy/gunky.

I used to use it in the shower after I shave my legs. :D You've never felt such silky legs in your life.

Just be careful and scrub out the tub when you're done, or else your husband will take a shower later and slip and bust his @ss like mine did. I tried not to laugh, honest to God I tried...

Seriously though, baby oil is made of mineral oil. When you have a free minute, go online and look up what exactly mineral oil is made of. You'll never want to touch it again.

Throw it out.

In the old days moms thought the baby's skin needed moisture. But oil blocks some babies pores and makes them break out (which can look like a dry skin reaction, which got those old time moms to apply more oil, which caused more break outs, which...).

best used for cradle cap.

for bathing, you can put it on baby's skin during his tub bath for soft, moisturized skin. if you feel that's too greasy, after giving your child a first soaping, rinse him/her out and put the baby oil all over his/her skin, especially on spots that tend to get rough like the elbows and knees, then do another light soaping. this leave the skin really soft and just lightly moisturized without feeling greasy.

To prevent chaffing like between the legs. Some babies have allergies to certain lotions but I haven't heard of being allergic to baby oil.

It is actually helpful with diaper rash, as, if applied to clean, dry skin, it creates a barrier between the skin and any moisture.

If you prefer lotion, that is up to you. :-))

Only thing I found it good for was cradle cap.

It helps to make the skin soft and then you could use a baby brush to get the dead skin off easier.

It is good for after shaving or waxing. My mom used to put in on cottown swabs and clean our ears. It's also good to use for giving massages.
SInce you've had it for 4 years though, it's time to throw it out. The stuff is only good for about 2 years.
