It was prescribed by my baby's pediatrician for a rash on her head, that she kept from about 1 month old till she was about 7 months old, the ellidel didn't help it at all so I didn't use it, but the rash finally went away on its own.

My pediatrician mentioned, just this week, that Ellidel is no longer recommended for use in young children. Some recent study has linked long-term use with skin cancer, although the doctor said that analysis of the data doesn't really seem to support the conclusion but doctors are playing it safe.
No great loss as far as I'm concerned. I used it once on my older child and it made the rash worse. The Pediatrician said that wasn't uncommon either.

No, don't use Elidel for diaper rash, Elidel is recommended for eczema plus it's not recommended for children under 2. There are many different types of diaper rashes, which I didn't realize until my son had one that needed a prescription to cure. I always had great success with using Desitin and A&D ointment, really didn't use the cornstarch based powder too much. Treating and preventing your child's diaper rash is really imperative, it can be very painful and uncomfortable for the baby. There is a parent's site for baby issues I've belonged to for years, lots of good information there, have provided the site below.

I would say absolutely not. It is an immune suppressant and was not intended for that purpose and I don't think it would even work for that. I suggest cleaning the rashed area very gently and leaving it open to air for as long as possible then placing aquaphor or even vaseline over the rash to prevent further breakdown and try to change diapers frequently, especially if there is any BM. Good Luck

I dont think that ellidel can be used for diaper rash. Also they dont recommend using it for children under 2.
Call your pediatrician and they will be more than happy to let you know...or even call your pharmacist.

The BEST over the counter stuff to use is Dr. Smith's diaper rash ointment, it's a little high, but soooo worth it. You can get it at Wal-Mart.

Not sure what that is. I always used Desitin with Zinc and also A&D ointment was good. There's a great reference site for a doctor below I'm including.

I sure have some nasty nieghbors who just can't seem to mind thier own business. They tell me I should use Desitin. Who the Ell cares what they think?

No. I wouldn't suggest using it for that. Also, it has been shown to cause skin cancer. I don't think it is approved for children under two. Please check this out as soon as you can.
