Well at six months the baby is teething. So that explains the reason why he is chewing on everything he gets his hands on. You can consider buying toys that stimulates his awareness. Toys that makes noise. Or you can even buy him a baby Mozart CD to listen to while he is playing.

I have an 8 month old daughter. She has several "favorite" toys. She definately likes to chew, as she is teething somewhat -- I would venture to guess your soon is probably cutting teeth too. One of the toys she plays with & chews on the most is a little stuffed animal with rubber hands and feet. It has little bumps and ridges on the hands and feet that are specially designed for teething babies.

I would highly recommend toys that your baby can sit and play with. Also, sights and sounds toys. My daughter loves the Fischer Price Classical Stacker and the Fisher Price Peek a Blocks that come in the square plastic container. This, too, will entertain them in between gnawing on everything in site due to teething....anything that makes noise or lights up would be great for this age.

I don't know what they're called, but they have those toys that when you lay him on his back and then they have the little stars/bears/etc dangling down and babys like to swat at them and stuff...
I don't have any kids so I'm not too sure, he's still a little young. Once he can sit on his own, the toy variety will greatly increase. Mostly that's what they want to do though, is put stuff in their mouths.
The link isn't working but go to http://www.target.com and you can search for toys by age. :)

6 months that chew can be teething, also almost all babies chew, because this is the first sense to develop so they can learn that way about the object.
Just make sure the toys are age appropriate in order to avoid shocks.
Plenty of carton books, laminated books.

yes it is normal. Very Normal!! =) walmart has all kinds of toys in the baby section that they like to chew on. My boys loved this one that was like a doll(kinda) but with these soft plastic paddle like things instead of hands or feet.

Get baby books with the chewy edges! Also, try toys that are similar to things he reaches for or shows interest in...for example your cell phone. Blocks are also great, especially different shaped and colored ones.

it is totally normal for him to just want to chew on everything. try giving him toys that light up or play music. i got my daughter this monkey that plays music and it rolls around for her to chase it. its made by fisher price, she loves it and it encourages her to crawl and move around.

i used to give my daughter a piece of paper and she would go to town.or put a piece of tape on her hand. kids arent really into toys at that age. it just makes us feel like better parents if they have them.

It's normal for him to just chew on his toys. Here are some toys you could try though that he might be interested in playing with instead of chewing on:
