how do you make a gif out of a web cam avi source?

Try Capture Screen to AVI and Animated GIF (catchy title, I know). It's freeware. The user interface looks really easy too.

click on photo page "anywhere on it "
The press Ctrl+Alt +Prt Scrn it 's just to left of F-12
at the same time this will copy a frame of the photo
then open up a photo or similar program.
some you can use photoshop ,windows bitmap,
and some web editing programs like front page.
you can paste the pic in say a windows bitmap move the photo to upper corner and save it as how you want..
Most media players you can't copy the picture this way but webcam pics it will work with..
