I don't have a middle name, only one of my brothers does. When people ask me what my middle name and I say I don't have one; they laugh as if I am making a joke or I somehow am ashamed of a name I don't even have.

I wasn't given one. My mom thought my last name would make a nice middle name when I got married.

I made up different middle names all the way through high school. They were somewhat dependent on what I was studying at the time; so there's records that have "Clytemnestra" and "Iphigenia" as my middle name. I settled on Caitlin for a while.

As long as it's not on any legal documents, you can pick any name you want.

My grandfather never had a middle name either. When he joined the army back in WW2, they required him to have a middle name on the form he filled out, so he just put None. On his certificate of discharge after the war was over, it says Nathan N. "last name here". They actually made it look like he had a middle name when he really didn't, so strange.

My mom wasn't given a middle name. She added one legally when she was 40 or 50.

A lot of people don't have middle names. Make up one. You should make it a name that you always wanted to have, but you weren't named it.

I have a friend who's parents intentionally did not give her a middle name so her maiden name would become her middle name when she was married. That's thinking ahead! Unless you are going to keep you own name...
