As I was growing up Myrtle Beach was the place to go. We spent many summer vacations there. Now that I am a bit older and married, my husband and I decided to go there for a summer vacation ourself. I could not believe how much it has changed. In South Myrtle Beach they have let most of the hotels run down. To me it was dirty looking. North Myrtle Beach was a bit nicer. We stayed in a condo there. But I think it has become very commercialized and it is bumper to bumper traffic thru the summer months. Just my opinion though!

I hate it!
It is way over commercialized and full of traffic and there's nothing really to do except for the occasional cheap, rip-off attraction. And even the good ones like Broadway at the Beach get old after a while. I mean I'm not trying to sound snobbish or whatever, but a lot of the people down at Myrtle Beach are like rednecks. I don't know, Myrtle Beach just doesn't do it for me. South Carolina beaches are nice though. I prefer the Isle of Palms or Hilton Head.

We have timeshare there, and I can tell you that in the last 20 years the building that has taken place is amazing. If you are young and single, you would probably want to stay in the heart of the city where "the action is". If you have a family Northy Myrtle Beach or the southern end or Myrtles Island you might like better. Certainly there is something for everyone: great musical shows, gambling ship in international waters, fishing, golf, great food. If you have the money, you have plenty of choices for your enjoyment. Get an oceanfront room and you can enjoy seeing all the characters on the beach.

Breakers Resort on Ocean Blvd. is very nice. As far as things to do there is so much to do! If you like shopping there is a bunch of shops on Ocean Blvd. or you can go to the outlets at Bare Foot Landing and you can shop, pet an aligator and have your picture taken with a tiger all in the same trip! And of coarse there is the ocean!

Very few beaches. They're all owned by a few hotels, so if you're not staying at one, you can't just go swimming.
