They are contractions in the uterus as it shedds the blood and lining. Use a heating pad. If they are extreme, you may have endometreosis.

I understand cramps are the way the body naturally assists the uterine lining to detach, and leave - causing your period. If you are having bad ones, start eating 5 minute oatmeal 2-3 times a week, about 1/2 cup a time - fixed any way you want (or plain if you can hack it). Be sure you are getting omega-3 in your diet too. That is in salmon and tuna and other fish.

during periods, all hormones are active and the dirty blood gets out of ur body so all these pressures bring stomach cramps
