A long time ago. Missionaries, mainly from what is now Germany, were trickling in during the 900's. We know that King Olof Skötkonung was baptized at Husaby in 1008. Christianity was accepted rather more speedily after that. What the king does is more socially acceptable, at least if he's a popular king. It is assumed that violence was not so frequently used in christianizing Sweden as it was in Norway, where torture and murder were considered quite the thing to make people change their minds and become devoted Christians.
