Laptops are "nicest" went three factors converge. Video card performance, processor
performance and HD rpm speed. When these
factors are all perfomance minded you can't normally go wrong.
The best way to select a laptop, imao, is by going to the ATI or Nvidia sites and finding the video card performance you require then identifying which laptop uses that specific card.
Any other approach is a waste of time. Laptops live and die by the video cards which commonly cannot be upgraded once configured.
And certain cards are available only on certain
laptops.

laptop computers can be a rather tricky buy at times, I would suggest that you look out for the cheapest and yet latest desktop on the market,
the best way to do this is on what they call warehouse sale markets some of them are online.
these warehouse owners have a service where they sell laptop computers to normal customers like you and me, however with very reduced prices due to the fact that they do not have as much costs as normal shops do, such as rent and a employees etc. as you know most online shops have rather competitive prices sometimes cutting the laptop price to a half.
one such website for laptop computers is :

Well as far as brands go I have always liked Toshiba's but most are fairly similar.
A nice laptop has
- built in wireless
-video output
-touchpad
depending on use it may be better to have a lighter one if you travel.
