Try North Conway, Lincoln (you can ride the scenic railroad from each town - it's beautiful) or if you really like quiet, try staying in Pittsburgh or Colebrook. Moose alley is up there (Route 3) and you are guaranteed moose sightings along that stretch of road.

You could also stay by the coast in Hampton Beach or Rye. It's beautiful down there and if you go for a drive along the scenic Route 1/1A you go through Kennebunk in Maine past Former Pres. Bush's house.

Personally, Maine coast is alot prettier than NH. There's only 13 miles of coast in NH and 100's in Maine.

Bristol N.H is very beautiful. You are on the lake but it's Newfound Lake instead of Winnepasaukee. You are close enough to go to Laconia where the action is but far enough away so it's not as crazy.
