Before you even think about getting a monkey you should go volunteer at a zoo or wildlife place and observe primates extensively both in their enclosures and with handlers/keeper. They can be major pains in the *** for an average person. They are extremely intelligent and need lots of enrichment. Not to mention you need to understand proper diet for them. I have seen too many monkeys that are deformed because ignorant people owned them. My advise would be get a dog or something NOT a monkey! If you do manage to get a monkey (and I hope you don't) please remember that vets have a code of confidentiality so don't be afraid to take your monkey to the vet if it needs it.

While you are volunteering at the zoo or wildlife facility you can inquire about licenses.

Here is a good link to go to and find out what kind of license you need, if any, to own a primate for any state in the USA:

Good luck with everything.
