Has anyone got some good ideas for fundraising for an animal charity.
I'm looking for something different to get peoples attention.
And does anyone know how I contact celebrities to get items from them to auction for the charity

Armchair Fundraiser - show a list of things needed. People who do not want to go fundraise may just buy the items for your group.

example:
This is a list of items currently on our wish list:

cat litter (we empty the boxes every morning, so we prefer inexpensive plain clay litter such as Wal-Mart, Roche Bros. or Shaw's house brands)
canned cat food
large and small trash bags

Or here are some free fundraising ideas I found at
http://www.FundraisingDeals.com/Fundraising-Ideas.aspx

Swear Jar: Does your household’s vocabulary rival that of the Osbornes? If so, charge $.25 for every swear & turn over the proceeds to your group once a month!

Casual Fridays: Is your company reluctant to allow its employees to wear jeans on Fridays? Tell them it’s for a good cause and charge your coworkers $5.00 to wear jeans. Colleagues pay the receptionist as they enter the office in the morning.

Office Candy Jar: Put a candy jar on your desk along with a separate jar for donations – allow your colleagues to take candy in exchange for donations towards replenishing the supply & the extra will go to your group!

You could have a celebrity right in your own town. Why not go to people in the celebrity area of your own town, tell them about the auction you plan to hold then ask if they would contribute something, and if they know of some other celebrity that would do the same. Tell them when the auction will be held and that you will return with a poster to put up close to their celebrity working area. Meanwhile you will contact someone like an art gallery owner, requesting space to hold your auction, notifying them of the local celebrities that will be having stuff to auction off. With the free space given the art gallery can also attempt to showcase some art that may be priced for those who show up for your auction. Return to all of your celebrities with the posters, the location, the time and a list of all of the stuff up for auction. Of course don't forget to specify that this money will go to animal charity. To keep it totally honest invite someone from the charity to the auction to legitimize the whole thing. Good luck with your auction and maybe, just maybe some other celebrities may hear of your auction and contribute something to your worthy cause.

Can't help you with celebrities and I don't know how attention grabbing it is (although some of the brochures definitely get your attention) I can show you a fundraiser that continues to bring in revenues, so it's not just a one time thing. I enrolled my rescue group. It's not flashy or anything and it's not like a top hat & tails event or a silent auctions (although those are supposed to work well) I figure I can show it to new adopters to keep interest going.
If you want to take a look, email me at Tab_Lynn@yahoo.com and we can work out a time to get in touch.

How about hosting a "pet wash?" Or possibly you could get a couple of local pet groomers to donate a full-service grooming for a dog or cat to raffle off?

How about pet-walking/sitting services? Or a Pet Beauty Contest?

As for celebrities, it's very difficult to contact them directly. Instead of really famous people, local celebrities or business owners are usually happy to donate goods and services for charities. Make up a single form letter that states what you are raising money for, when the auction will be held, how it will be publicized and a cost-limit that is reasonable for any goods or services you would like donated. Don't ask for specific items. Instead, just say you would appreciate it if they donated something (and let them choose what) to the auction! Tell them their name will be on the program, or in the publicity for the auction. Then, just accept whatever they donate, and auction or raffle it off. Don't limit yourself to just goods--people will bid on things like a free haircut, or tire rotation too. Services are great to auction off!

I used to fundraise for the cats protection and we tried writing to local radio stations, bbc 2 and places like that but no one answered.

Keep up the good work I know it's hard. You could maybe try an auction, auction people to do things for the one's that won the auction. Gardening etc.

As far as fund raising goes I certainly would not ask Hooter's for animal charity. Read in paper where Hooter's is raising money for "Hooters for Neuters. Flyer has girls in little. It's a good idea but the title and flyer could use alittle work. Maybe try offering training classes for pets with proceeds going to charity or other pet related causes ie.....Pet setting, walking jobs that money could bring in. As far as actors go, some animal charities can get you in touch with their spokesperson?

With social network sites now days fundraising can make a huge impact. One of the best sites I found out there for fundraising would have to be www.gatestogifts.com. They help organizations raise money for lots of great causes. Might check their site out.

I don't know how you can get celebrities to give you stuff to auction but I don't see why you want to. Go to www.globalexpeditions.com and find the thing on the side that says "financial help" then click on funraisning ideas. Simple
