Kbps is a measurement of speed (kilobits per second) mb is a measurement of size (megabyte). That would be like converting punds to miles per hour.

I wonder how many people get caught in the usual trap here?

First off, "kbps" means "kilobits per second", not kilobytes. To get from bits to bytes, divide by 8 (eight bits in a byte).

Second, there are 1,000 kilobits in a megabit, and 1,024 kilobytes in a megabyte.

So, put that together, and you have:
7,808kbps = 7,808 kilobits per second
= 976 kilobytes per second (divide kbps by 8)
= 0.95 megabytes per second (divide kilobytes by 1,024)
= 7.808 mbps (megabits per second, kbps divided by 1,000)
