Emerald G.. you dont think a country that has the most powerful military.. the most money.. the best schools.. the fastest growing economy.. et cetera.. are not genious? why would YOU compare the USD to the euro? have you ever seen a new type of currency introduced to a union as big as the eu and not have very high value? the euro will fall back. also, we would take the romans currently if we were at common times with similar weaponry. ;)

There are cyclical theorists that have charted American history in 80-year cycles (I recommend the book "The Fourth Turning" by William Strauss and Neil Howe). If their 80-year cycles hold true, then the U.S. will face another Great Depression/World War II-level crisis within the next 5-15 years. Every time the U.S. faces a crisis like this, it runs the risk of bringing about the end of our nation (or at least as we know it.) How long will Pax Americana last? No idea, but we'll have our next challenge soon.

Don't compare the current US to the Roman empire. The founding fathers were pretty wise, but nowadays.... this is a horrible comparison. THE Romans were geniuses, the created the world we know now.
We have already fallen, the USD is worth less than the Euro. The US has entered a state where it can not be saved but the current leaders. This is basically the end of its reign.

We have every reason to believe that the United States will maintain its sovereignty for a very long time. Any hostile takeover by foreign governments is extremely unlikely, even if our many enemies banded together and launched a frontal attack. The United States has the most advanced and most powerful armed forces that the world has ever seen and has the largest defense budget ever to back it up. Currently, the United States accounts for half of the world's defense budget-- just under 500 billion dollars--and the figure is expected to cross that limit within the next 4-6 years.

Even if we are no longer a world power people will still be here just like they're still in Rome.
So my answer is, indefinitely.
I love the person above me who said the Romans were geniuses.
Many of them were some of the most cruel and disgusting people to ever walk this earth.
What most people don't realize is that we are the type of people that would be willing to destroy the entire planet before we gave up one city.
Even if someone defeated us the land would be uninhabitable.

USA will always prevail. This race of people have dominated the world since the beginning. They are overcomers and persistant, every once in a while a country must purge itself of the weak. Who do you think Rome was, they just dug up the Roman empire in England. Where do you think we came from?

To be honest, I don't think our demise as a free country is as far away as we'd like to believe. America has always been strong, but I think it's causing big egos. We can't just take over other countries and say that we're helping. Maybe that's not the kind help they needed. I just hope I'm not here when we're taken over by an alliance of every foreign country we've ever pissed off.

I see our country falling within the next 100 years. Unfortunately, the hippie movement of the 60's has turned our society and culture into a "feel good" garbage society that completely undermines what made us great and fighting for what is right and just for what "feels good." Unless this degradation turns around fast (which won't happen because our country has turned into mostly brain-dead "feel good" emotional beings), our structure will not hold for much longer.

Most civilizations do not last more that one thousand years (Egypt being an exception). With things being so much faster paced today ... I'd give the US another 100 or 200 years, tops.

As long as the world lasts, the last moments of the U.S. will entail a full nuclear retaliation.
