"PA" is an abbreviation for a job title that varies according to industry. Two posters already named a couple of them, "Physician's Assistant" and "Production Assistant."

Most commonly, however, a "PA" is a "Personal Assistant" working with a business person. The term is more common in Europe than the US.

Typically this is someone who helps keep the daily calendar up-to-date, receives and organizes mail, receives phone calls and messages, and helps respond to matters as directed by the business person or according to a standard routine. Sometimes - especially in the entertainment industry - a PA will drop off and pick up laundry and cleaning, make sure the car is gassed up and serviced, take the car if necessary to be cleaned up, order presents for the boss' wife (or husband, or significant other, or ...), and many other details of a more personal nature.

This job used to be called "secretary."
