Just curious, I think he may and I was wondering if I would know if he was! We are on a central server, but it's in my office along with my computer. I delete my history and files, just because I don't think it's right to spy...I don't spend all day online and I don't go to porn sites or anything like that, i go on here now and then or check my mail or ebay, period! I wondered if I would be able to tell from a certain program any computer has or from anything else.

Thanks!

Wow, ya alot of people apparently didn't read the question. I'm an It manager for a medical Billing company, and I have 2 servers to play with. Let me tell you right now, YES! Anything and everything that goes through my companies system, I can watch and see exactly what these people are doing on the network at all times. I can look at it live, or have it email me a log(quite big) file to me everyday. I could not tell you of a program that could actually monitor this activity tho. Cleaning out your computer, well thank you, saves IT people like me some time fixing them =)
but yes, no matter what you do, "we" can always watch what you do, but mind you, not everyone is spying, we just monitor for your safety as well as the systems safety.

There's no way for you to tell, honestly; the small overhead in processing time for logging is done on the central server.

As an employee, your boss has a right to monitor you. If you have restrictions on internet usage, be absolutely sure that you are within your rights to visit the websites you do and for the length of time, because the log files contain your sites and time accessed at a minimum, and there's no denial to be found in hard evidence.

Chances are that your network administrator or security guy has already blocked ports for services that aren't allowed and servers that contain content forbidden by the company (yet these are ever changing). Above all, be AWARE of what you do, because it will be recorded!

I always tell my friends, because I seem to be the one with the most computer tricks, that THEY are watching you.

You are not doing anything wrong, check mail and ebay is probably the same thing your boss is doing. So I wouldn't worry. Not only can they manage the content you view but most likely the time you spend surfing. So if it is only ten minutes or so a day... Who gives a flying frog.

Now I wish we could monitor their content and traffic usage.
If you don't want your mother, child or new channel anchorman to read it.... don't write it in an email. Company's IT departments get real kicks out of email content. Don't give them the giggle.

In most jurisdictions, the employer has the right to monitor usage of their own network. Some jurisdictions require notice to the employees of that fact, but others don't.

There is no reliable way for you to tell if this is being done; well designed monitoring systems won't leave any evidentiary tracks for you to find.

It's not YOUR computer. It's the COMPANY'S computer. Your boss has every right to monitor your computer usage. If you aren't doing anything that could get you in trouble, then what are you so worried about? He isn't spying on you.
