I like the older ones best: Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, John Wayne, Charlton Heston, Clark Gable, Howard Keel, Burt Lancaster, Sean Connery. There are more but that will do for now.

Jack Nicholson. To be able to do movies like One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest and As good as it gets, then turn around and do something like The Shining....That's just awesome acting there
Another actor who I think is awesome, but really doesn't receive any attention is Patrick Stewart.

James Dean. I recently watched the movie "Giant" again and I was completely blown away by his performance as a poor ranch hand who became a mega-millionaire. In every scene, he was natural, realistic and completely realized. Every actor should watch him and take pointers. So tragic that his life ended shortly after the film.
