This means that you'd use 50 parts gasoline to 1 part oil.
In a big picture, you'd have a 50 gallon drum of gas, and you'd add one gallon of oil. But this is small stuff, so realistically, what I do is put a "splash" of oil in the tank, fill it with gas, put the lid on, and shake it up. Too much oil will make the trimmer smoke, so try to get a feel for what's a good mix for yours.
If you want to be precise, measure your fuel tank on the trimmer, and divide that by 50. Add that much oil to a full tank.

How old is the snow blower? I would usually say to go with what the manufacturer recommends. That being said, I had a 1960 Evinrude outboard engine in the late 1980's. They recommended SAE30 but I used 2 cycle oil and it was fine. I think it was so old it pre-dated 50:1 2 cycle oil.

IT means to use a high quality, 2 stroke oil designed for air cooled 2 strokes.... at a 50:1 ratio.... thats 2.6 ounces per one gallon of fresh regular gas. Get a one gallon can, fill it up and mix 2.6 ounces of oil in it and use it, DO NOT RUN STRAIGHT GAS THROUGH IT!! or you'll burn the engine up in nothing flat.
Gas mixed with oil does not become unstable.... gas is a very light oil anyway..... they mix perfectly... its really the gas that will start to deteriorate and gum up. This is why you use a fuel stabilizer.... should be able to use it up to 6 months to a year with a stabilizer fine.

It means you add 50 parts gas to one part 2 cycle oil. You can obtain a perfect measure cup/container at your local hardware or wal-mart. If not measured and mixed properly it can cause problems. Too much oil can cause the engine to smoke and clog up or foul the spark plug. Not enough oil can ruin the piston, ring or cylinder. Be sure and mix this in a seperate container before pouring in the trimmer tool tank.

The math advise is good BUT DO NOT mix a large batch. If possible mix only enough for a few uses. Gasoline mixed with oil becomes very unstable with age (days) and this makes it hard to start 2 cycle engines.

Yes it means 50 parts gasoline to one part oil. I gallon of gas is 128 oz. so to convert to ounces simply set up your ratio as follows: 128/1=50/1 cross mutliply and you get 128/50 or 2.56 ounces of oil to one gallon of gas.
