Laptops are the highest stolen items in America. So second hand probably does not come with any sort of Warantee. Check it out TOTALLY. But I wouldn't give you any more than $300 for the best possible laptop out there.
See if you can get the NAME, Phone number, mailing address and other information on the guy that sells it to you. Write down the PLATE numbers on the car or truck. This might come in handy if you should ever talk to the POLICE about it.

I do not know where you live but if they have a Frys electronics there you can get new one (their brand) for 3-4. We bought one and we have had absolutely no problems with it.
