I've heard of people working from home using the computer/internet. How do they do that, how do I join in?

I want to earn some extra cash. I have broadband and telephone. I have also heard of people working from home and earning a living. How do they do that, what kind of job they do on their computer and internet. I want to do that because I have quite some spare time.
