The saying "The squeaky wheel gets the grease" means that complaining about something will force attention to be paid to it. So, he's saying that just because Democrats complain doesn't mean their complaints should be attended to.

When heel squeeks the problem and what it needs or whats becomes known. Just becasue what they want is known doesn't mean that they deserve what they want. It's pretty much like how you can't always get what you want but working for something can get you somewhere. Sounds to me like your dad doesn't think so highly of the democrats and feels that they spend more time complaining instead of getting things done.

Basicly in politics it would seem he or she who cries the loudest gets all of the attention.
My dad has a saying also in the same vain.
"The Squeeky wheel gets replaced." but then again he is an engineer.
Don't let chest thumping and political who haw get in the way of the issues.

When you drive your car thru a water puddle your pads get wet and squeek, it doesn't mean they need attention and often the cautious lean too far to being safe, much to the glee of Brake repair people. The Allegory goes beyond political leanings, but there are a lot of people who only look to degrade their neghbors. If 'doing unto others as you would have them do onto you' were an automatic reaction, would we have such degrading responses?

It means that your Dad is a very perceptive man! Modern-day Democrats tend to be knee-jerk liberals, who are VERY interested in getting every possible benefit from the government. Clearly, the takers don't deserve all the goodies they get.
