I think retrofuture is a lot more inventive and filled with the wonder and imagination of what could be. Ultra hi-tech future is usually portrayed as a cold, mechanized society where the future of mankind is threatened by a possible robotic revolution.
In short, retrofuture sounds a bit more optimistic for the most part.
