Well, we have mediocre everything except brain power. Usually animals will have great hearing, but poor sight. We have everything pretty balanced.
We have superior brain power than allow us to flourish. We don't need claws. There's already 6billion of us.

All animals occupy a niche in the natural world. Cheetah's are the really fast animals, Blue Whales are the really big ones, etc. Humans occupy the niche of being more capable of using tools, more capable to adapt problem solving, etc. Based on natural selection, the most fit animal survives. Therefore, usually the smartest human survives, not the most physically powerful, because the most powerful usually do not tend to also be the most intelligent. With artificial selection or genetic engineering, however, we could theoretically become more powerful, but at this point in human history it's not really necessary (why have claws when you have a gun?)

First of all, you're wrong. Most animals have crummy or no vision, likewise with hearing and taste, but have an excellent sense of touch. Why? Because most of the earth's animals are insects. But anyway, I can see why you asked this question. The answer is our brains. With our brains, we can make our own telescope-night-vision eyesight, wield our own claws or stingers, and ride on our own set of speedy legs. So if you think about it, with our technology, we have the sharpest eyes, the fastest ways to get around, the deadliest weapons, and the most intelligence and logic of any living form on our planet.

Well, we still have canines(sharp teeth) and our finger/toenails. The reason they are no longer usable like, say a tigers, is due to our mental capacities evolving much better than the rest of the animal kingdoms, meaning we used our brains for survival. The other tools, like claws and teeth, diminished through being no longer necessary. That's the Theory, anyway!

Some animals have speed and great sense of smell but have terrible eye sights, others have great vision but lack hearing, there are hundreds if not thousands of examples. As humans we have something very few other creatures have that gives us advantage over the others. Higher intelligence combined with the oposible thumbs. We are one of the very few that also use tools.

Every species has its way of adapting. Ours is to work in social groups to advance our own populations. We have technological abilities. We can make our own defenses that take the place of claws, teeth, etc. and use thrown rocks, clubs, spears, knives, guns, etc. But we're not alone. If you think about it, there are a LOT of species that don't have the things you mention above, including other species of primates. Our weapons of survival are our brains. And, I have to say, at the rate we have taken over the world and are driving many of the other species to extinction, you have underestimated the abilities and strengths of our "weapons".

We didn't need those things to survive.
In the animal world only the strongest, most perceptive survive. In the human world we used our brains to change our environment, build artificial shelters so we didn't die without fur, developed societies to protect the weaker & elderly members, etc
Saying we're oddballs for not having brains instead of claws is like saying a fish is an oddball for not having feet. He doesn't need them!

like a lot of ppl said, we do have some advantages that animals don't. As for your specific points, we have a better sense of sight than many other animals, and we have fighting skills that are bettern than claws, aka our ability to strategize or hold weapons. even in terms of purely physical skills, we are bigger, faster and stronger than a lot of animals (think, your pet hamster). different animals adapt different ways of coping with their environments. Seems we haven't done so badly for ourselves if instead of needing claws we figured out how to use tools...

Humans have a very advanced sense of sight (not many animals see in color) and a huge (in proportion to body size) brain. Oh and don't forget the opposable thumbs which enable us to use tools better than almost any other animal.

A human's ability to make rational decisions lessens the need for self defense weapons such as claws. Situational awareness is key to survival.
