I see no shame in nakedness--that's just your culture that tells you it is wrong to be seen naked. So where did Adam and Eve get the idea in their heads?

(I have a theory, but I think the whole story's an allegory, not an actual event.)

I always thought this was an allegory pointing to the rise of agriculture and civilization. Prior to this, they were hunters and gatherers. Maybe more gatherers than hunters. With the rise of civilization comes all these extra tabboos and fashions.

In fact it does not say anything at all about eating and 'apple', but as most people don't go and read the genesis text, they end up asking questions about something that never happened in the first place. It mentions "the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil", but belief systems being what they are, systems of distraction from reality, then people just accept the rote ideas that are not corrected by the priests, and simply 'believe' that something is said rather than check it out for themselves. The basic message of the Adam/Eve/serpent story is the same one as for all religions - "reject knowledge and fact, and close your mind and accept what you are told...or else". Remember that you can't be a believer and know things, as that involves knowledge, and knowledge destroys doubt and fear and belief, so what would the priests have left to sell? Nothing, which is what you buy when you believe (accept without checking the facts)...but we are trained not to see, not to look, and to accept that we are blessed (bestowed with good things) when the peddlers are in fact selling you blind (mentally handicapped) ideas that are just false, like the 'apple' story just mentioned. Where is the apple? It was never there, was it? But millions will tell you that they sincerely 'believe' that Genesis mentions it, don't they? What is going on?

Adam and Eve lived in a
perfect world before the forbidden
fruit incident. (Eden)

In other words, they were
perfect and they were innocent.
As innocent as small children are.

Small children are well known
to be able to walk around anywhere
without being clothed and not be
bothered in the least bit about it.

As they get older, they become
conscious of themselves and their
bodies, hence, the desire to be clothed.

The tree from which Adam & Eve
ate the apple from was called,
"the tree of the knowlege of good & evil".

It was at the very moment they ate
the apple, that they became aware
of their nakedness. They had at that
instance become knowlegeable that
it is not good to be naked.

Much like the small child who
grows into a conscious adult
with the desire to be clothed.

I hope this explanation helps.

At first, They were not ashamed:

Gen 2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

But then, the story goes that they disobeyed god and ate the fruit (representing knowledge)

Gen 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

the first time Adam heard the voice of god again, he hid himself.

Gen 3:9-10 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And Adam said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

Really though? You think it is allegory? Is it because no-one was there to witness it or is it too unbelievable?

I think the story is silly because it says that god created us to be stupid. I really don't believe that at all. It a god wants us to be stupid, that god does not deserve worship.

They weren't till they ate from the tree. Than according to the bible they knew shame and tried to cover themselfs. I see nothing wrong in being naked. I'm a Pagan thought

I'm no authority on the Bible. If memory serves, once the fruit from the tree of knowledge was eaten, they became aware of their 'nakedness.' Prior to the fruit, they both were unaware that they were naked.

Adam and Eve were created perfect and if they hadn't sinned, would have been able to bear perfect children. After they became sinners they could no longer bear perfect children and they realized this. They shamefully covered their reproductive parts so as to try to hide them from God's sight. What the Bible says is true.

Neither one had a navel. Adam was made from clay and Eve from his rib. Neither one was ever "born" or had "a mother" so no umbilicus, so no navel. Pretty shameful.

Because whoever wrote it thought it was shameful.

OOOOPPS, I mean, God TOLD whoever wrote it it was shameful.

Hell, they didn't have anything else to use as an example of how they went from not caring to seeing their sinful ways after they ate the apple.

Because it was after they ate the apple, and before they didn't care because they were pure. afterwards they cared that they were naked because lust was a possibility when it never was before.
