POkey means that you are slow to answer or take your time before answering a question. It could also be a way of saying you are too slow to ask them out or ask them to do things. Sometimes it could mean you don't always return calls, etc.

In the south pokey just means slow, like "quit being so pokey."

I believe when you are being called "pokey" someone is trying to tell you that you are slow. Probably derived from the American saying: slow poke.

A "Pokey" in slang means prison, a cramped place or (in Australian slang) a fruit-gambling machine.

I always thought it meant you were not speedy, you just kinda "poked" along, like a slow poke. There used to be a candy called a "slow poke" that took a long, long time to eat.

I agree. I always thought it meant one who moves slowly.

Were you slow in responding to previous email?

It's used jokingly; it is not a mean term. :-))
