when Quills ended- it left me wanting to know more about Abbe.

It seems Abbe de Coumier was best know as the director of the asylum where famed Marquis de Sade was being treated. Were it not for de Coumier, the Marquis de Sade may have never gained the world-wide acclaim he has.

de Sade was taken from Abbe de Coumier's care and was eventually replaced as the director of Charenton because of the outcry in reaction to de Sade. Before he was removed, de Coumier attempted to have de Sade moved back to his facility, to no avail.

That is where the story ends for de Coumier. It seems his story is only known because of the Marquis de Sade.
