I walked into a furnitue store, and all I was doing was wearing a low cut shirt that showed some cleavage. I didnt think it would cuase such a reaction. There was all these men standing around litterally undressing me with their eyes. I am busty but not anything that is a big deal. So why did one of them yell out "girl" to me?? What does that mean, I dont understand. They all got real quite and kept stairing I finally got so uncomfortable I had to leave.

I used to have that kind of thing happen all of the time. I'm way too busty in my opinion and it feels as though I can't wear normal clothes cause idiots will leer all day long. It's so tedious.
This is weird advice, but go watch Desparado. Salma Hayek in that movie handled attention very well. By just understanding that it's admiration, because some people don't understand what's admirable. It's so silly that it's funny to me now, and I really don't mind. And now I can wear clothes other than baggy t-shirts and still feel ok.
You're something they want and can't have. Just keep the second half of that in mind when you deal with it. Just knowing that will make you feel better.

Men usually tend to be very sexually motivated creatures. I'm not going to go as far to say that you were advertising your breasts but I'm sure that framing them in a low cut shirt didn't help. Given the fact that this business is populated by males most likely means that they spend most of the day not seeing women, like a convict.

By the statement "girl" the man is most likely referring to you in astonishment. His intention may have been one of praise, but it's still sexist, demeaning and rude.

By "furniture store" you don't mean "construction site," do you?

I live in New York and constantly see women getting cat-calls. I don't know what to do except to apologize for the lewd behavior of my fellow men. They were a little out of line and it is terrible that they made you feel this way.

Men are visual creatures. When they see someone attractive, they look. It may not be polite, but it is male. That said, the man who said something to you was definitly out of line. You should have looked at him and said "cuchon". (pig). On the other hand, if you put it out there to be seen, don't get offended when they look.
Men are always checking out women and vice versa. Let's cool the false outrage and admit what's going on, we all like to look.
