As has already been mentioned we have at least two very fine robots on Mars. But to make it possible for humans to make the trip, there are a number of problems. It is a very long way to go and people need to survive the distance and still be in good enough physical condition to move around the surface of Mars. They also need to have sufficient fuel to make the round trip. NASA has been generating plans for such an operation for years and it continues to work on them. For the most current ideas, try going to "www.NASA.gov" and searching the site for topics about Mars. You'll learn a lot about the program.

There are currently two robots on mars. They are called the "spirit" and the "opportunity" explorers.
But to make a person to go to mars is very hard. Not because of the rocket ship, but because when a person is in outer space for a long time, the calcium begins breaking down in their bones and they get osteoporosis. That's what the problem is right now with sending a person to mars.

The United States currently has two land rovers on the surface of Mars. And the reason we don't have a good enough spaceship is because the technology escapes us currently, with the spaceships we have now it would take about 8 years or months not sure which to reach mars, meaning we would have to build a large ship to carry extra rations, and if we build a bigger ship we would have to do so in space because launching a large ship from Earth is very difficult, and we currently have to construction sites outside of the atmosphere

They do send robots to Mars. They're up the as we speak. They don't send humans because it would be waaaaaaaaaaaay to expensive with the technology we have now. Maybe in a couple hundred years we'll be going to Six Flags on Mars... or I should say our great great grand children will be, but probably not in our lifetime.

A number of craft have been sent to Mars already. With robotic tools. Some more successful than others.

We've already sent lots of rockets and robots to Mars -- go here to check out some photos of the robots currently there:

The next step will be human exploration.

it's been done, but it is really expensive, so it's not done a whole lot. And it is hard, because you can't control the robot in live action because of the distance being too far

We can't send humans to other plantes because we don't have the technology yet for a spacecraft to travel thousands of miles with minimal supplies if fuel.
