Be sure to use a warm washcloth before you shave...place it over the area for 5-10 minutes and ALWAYS use a good, new razor when you shave (I like the Mach 3 Turbo, myself).
To avoid red bumps: lightly swab some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball over the area after you've shaved and dried well--I don't know why/where I heard about this, but it works!
You'll be itchy until you get used to it. There's no getting around it.
Waxing is good for the first time, but I thought it hurt like hell and have stuck to my razor since then. :-)
Finally, I hope you're not just doing this for the husband! I do it out of personal preference, but doing it for someone else wouldn't be worth the hassle, methinks.
Happy experimenting!

If you shave you won't have a problem with ingrown hairs because the hair is actually going to get thicker and go through skin. Downfall of this method is that you will get itchy when the hair grows back and the result is not as smooth. The alternative is waxing which is much more aesthetically pleasing. The longer you wax though you weaken the hair which eventually may not be strong enough to go through your skin, therefore resulting in ingrown hairs. Since you haven't done this before I would say wax for the first time to see how you like it to begin with.

I am a bald eagle. I always shave. My ex husband talked me into it four years ago and I have never had hair down there again. What you need to do is take scissors and clip it down as close as possible. Then get a mach 3 razor with shaving gel. Make sure that you do not shave against the growth otherwise you will get razor bumps. so shave downwards on the top part and inside thigh to the inner lip. You will however get the occassional ingrown hair. I always put baby oil gel down there when I am finished to prevent burn. You will feel weird the first day or two cuz you are not used to it. But make sure you shave every four days or so depending on how fast it grows back.

DO NOT use shaving cream.use a mild soap like dove. use a single blade razor. not a double or triple one. when you first start to shave it will itch when it grows back but that will stop after a few times.. also do not shave everyday. that will give you more ingrown hairs. do it at least once a week. if that. If you use shaving cream you have a better chance of getting a yeast infection. u also can get another infection that will make the outside of you itch, and it will burn and skin could start to peel cause it makes your skin dry. I have had this happen to me before and This is what my docotor told me. Hope it helps. BUT ALSO have him try it one time. it's only fair.

You definitely can get ingrown hairs, but most of the time they occur when you shave too often. I shave (using shaving cream - not just soap), then I use a gentle exfoliator (like St. Ives apricot scrub) and then I actually use a small amount of Johnson and Johnson baby oil gel to soothe the skin. Works for me!

I would suggest waxing..if you never shaved before, than it will be less painful, and the results are amazing..you only have to do it once every 3 weeks, you don't have itchiness or the really hard hairs coming out every 2 days. Good luck!

Laser sessions will help you get rid of hair permenantly, it's painful but just for a few minutes. Waxing or shaving will still make you itchy and have ingrown hairs.....

I would recommend waxing. Ingrown hairs, red bumps, and itchiness can be alleviated with certain lotions/creams, but they are not completely preventable. If you can deal with the pain, waxing is a much better alternative and lasts longer as well.

Not completely but there are products to apply that can help prevent irritation and ingrown hairs. Of course daily exfoliation with a gentle loofah will help too as hair grows back.

Try getting it waxed instead. When it starts to grow back it gets itchy if you shave...but it's not unbarable or anything. It's not a big deal...just make sure that you shave with the grain of your growth so you don't cut yourself and use a good razor.
