I noticed that phenomenon also. And I am amused by it. But also, I noticed that even with my own spelling, sometimes the spell checker doesn't work.
It is kind of a gripe with me that some spelling is really awful. A spellchecker is right here for everyone to use, but a lot of people don't use it.
On the other hand, when I use it, sometimes I get a little red alert that says the spell checker isn't working.

They want to hurry and get their opinion across so they forget to use the spell checker.

I for one don't use it, because it doesn't work in Opera, for some unknown, likely inexplicable reason.
