Arco has a higher methanol content than Shell or Chevron, hence the difference in price. Arco can cause some problems in cars that were not designed to handle the alcohol content. Shell and Chevron have excellent reputations for selling a quality product, and are good at making sure their vendors are maintaining the high quality. The brand does not guarantee that you are always getting what you pay for. There are many unscrupulous dealers out there selling regular as premium, selling independent refiners products as name brands, etc. Find a good quality station and stick with it.

With the exception of proprietary additives which are dubious in nature, all gasoline conforms to the same standard. Most oil companies share gas with one another (Shell buys from the Valero Refinery, Chevron from the Texaco Refinery, etc. )

Rotten Robbie is the same gas as Arco.

They're all basically the same.

BTW, the generics don't suck. They come from the major name brand refineries; it's exactly the same fuel as sold at the brand name outlets. If you don't believe this, follow a fuel delivery truck back to its depot and watch who comes and goes.
