No. The outside of the box and the pole may be your property, but the inside space of the mail box belongs to the Federal Government---the United States Postal Service. Only mail addressed you to and placed inside the box by a USPostal Worker is legal.

I don't see it being any problem, because it didn't make throught the system, like a post stamp on it, or the postman handling it, like, them touching it.
I have handed out flyers years ago, i just put it in thier mail box, on the street. but i think it is a different story if you go right to the post office, because they have to put it each box for you.

It is illeagle to put anything in a mail box, the box belongs to the federal government once you put it up for mail.
