Maybe your interview skills need some help. They actually have courses to take to help build your confidence, and help with your self esteem. Not sure how to find one, but I have heard of them. I could use some help in that area as well.

It is harder for you to get a job today than before because you probably did not keep up to date with technology. Every job now has some sort of technology Maybe a simple key entry on the computer, maybe you did not update your skills because even if you are not asked to use the computer, because of computer use, you may not be familiiar with changes mad to the company, how they file stuff these days. Also since people are becoming more and more competitive , you need to upgrade basic education. The same qualifications ten years ageo that would get you a secretarial job, will now only get you to sweep the metro. Think about it and the answer will hit you right in the face. Also
readiness is important. You cannot go to a job interview, not knowing anything about the comapany and exactly what it is that they do. Also check to see if you are a negative person. You need to go to a job interview with confidence. 80% condifence will do. You don't need a hundred. Put the other 20% in making sure that you have a good clean suit if you cannot afford a new one. Use smbre coloured suits for an interview.

It could be several reasons.
1) Few jobs in your field. You may have to consider branching out and acquiring new skills to apply to different jobs. The competition will be stiff.
2) Job market in your region is depressed. This could be due to regional influences such as increased labor costs in area. You may have to consider extending your job search radius.
3) You need more preparation in interviews. You may be doing something wrong in interviews..maybe you say something bad about your past employer, get too nervous, or don't explain your work history thoroughly. You can improve doing mock interviews..sometimes they offer them at career centers.
4) You do not have enough experience in you given field of interest. This is a tough one..you may have to bite the bullet and work as a temp or intern for low pay to get more experience.
5) You lack the skillset of other candidates. You might have to take an extension or community college class to match other candidate's skill set.
6) Your work history has gaps or "job-hopping". Some employers will question your loyalty if you hop from job to job without a valid and reasonable reason. Just say there is only so much you could learn...if you had a bad experience. Also, gaps do not look good because employer may think you are lazy or unmotivated, sadly.
Good luck..and hope you find a good job.

Unemployment is good for business. The higher the unemployment rate the more choice an employer has. When unemployment gets to a certain number you will need a masters degree to work in a gas station.Plus, why hire you when there is someone in an underdeveloped nation who will do your job for a fraction of what you need to make a living wage?( And they won't demand benefits or coffee breaks!)
You might think about re-evaluating your job skills and find out what transferable skills you have. And really sit down and think about what makes you happy. What type of job could you really throw yourself into and feel satisfied at the end of the day.I finally realized this is my life.My life doesn't start when I've saved up enough money to retire or when I can afford my dream house.
I've got to live today. Please don't become a pawn in your own life.
Moved back and forth across the board of your life by statistics and averages.
There is one thing that holds true throughout the history of mankind.
Good work will always be rewarded.Find something at which to be good
Sincerely

They say that finding a job is the hardest job.
If you know all of the don't show up late to the interview, dress nicely, don't tell the interviewer a story about the time you ate a goldfish on a dare stuff, then maybe you're doing fine, there are just more candidates interviewing for the same jobs.
The interviewers have to make split decisions about several candidates. It's tough, and you don't get more than one shot at a first impression. Get a friend to do mock interviews with you, and give you suggestions.

Get out the yellow pages and call businesses in your field and ask if you can fax over your resume. This is a very effective method. Keep the name of the person you are directed to fax it to and follow up in 3-4 days. If they aren't hiring, ask if they know who is. Only 10% of all jobs make it to the classified ads. Most are through someone they know. Tell your friends and relatives you are looking and ask them to pass along the word. Look on www.craigslist.org and post your resume there, as it is free. Go to www.monster.com
Do a mock interview with a friend and get feedback.

There are to many unknowns to us about your situation and you should not post them here. Every state has employment helps. Maybe you should go talk to a state employment counselor for free. That person can see you and talk to you. They might be able to guide you in the correct way to get thru an interview. They might be able to review your resume. That is a whole field in itself.
Other than that tips that I can think of would be:
Research the company that you are trying to get employment at. You can do that on the Internet.

it always seems that way. I went through a four month period of interview after interview with nothing. depends on how you left your other jobs. most times, your interviewers will call them and get recommendation even before they call you for an interview. if you get something bad then no luck with the interview. i got fortunate with a company that didn't care about references or anything like that (I burned lots of bridges) If you think about, references are stupid anyways. You'll obviously put down the people who like you and will put in a good word for you everytime so what's the point? when they call for references beforehand, that's when problems arise. just keep emailing or mailing resumes out. you'll eventually get one setup. that, in additon to HR people are lazy f*cks. they'll have your resume on their dek for like two months before they do anything with it. I've actually gotten calls for interviews where I sent them a resume 5 months ago.

It is probably the way you are presenting yourself. Make sure you dress nice, wear light makeup, no strong perfume, no big jewelry and make sure you are confident in yourself when talking to the person doing the interview.
