Not sure if this meets your requirements, but for a modest fee, on http://www.boston.com you can search archives of the Boston Globe back to 1979, or even 1872-1922. Searching is free, retrieval requires a small fee. On , you can search from 1991 forward.

If you don't want to search online, you'll need to find a library that has the newspapers on microfilm (which is how older newspaper are stored). Not every library will have out of state newspapers, but I expect there will be at least some Rhode Island libraries that carry a major Boston newspaper.

You can go to http://www.lori.ri.gov/lori/default.php and search to see which Rhode Island libraries have the Boston Globe or other newspapers, and how far back they keep them. I did not see any that kept Globes more than a year.

Better luck with calling the Boston newspaper and asking them to send it to you.
