Insanity itself is merely a legal term, no one is "insane" there's disorders and illnesses that cover the scope.

It's actually a large category of diseases, and in some cases a concept of society to conform the masses. Some afflictions can be harmful to the individual or the whole, whereas others are simply eccentric behavior that's been over-scrutinized. It's a difficult diagnosis to make, which is why Psychologists and Psychiatrists need so much schooling before they're allowed to practice. Cutting yourself is bad for you, enjoying odd pizza toppings like sardines is crazy, but not harmful. See?

Insanity, in the legal sense, is a disease in which someone is unable to control their own actions, does not perceive reality as it is, or hallucinates, and thus is not able to appreciate the quality, nature, and/or illegality of their actions. There are other forms of mental illness, which may not be as much an actual disease, but at the very least those who are criminally insane suffer from a disease.

insanity has more than one meaning like so many English words. being different does not make you insane, but when the powers that be, torment you to the point in which your limits are no longer able to process or exercise control, you have reached insanity. Now once you have reached this point you will not be aware that you are such, but rather believe you are anything but. In some cases this can be true while in others it makes you the fool. Also note that there are varying levels of insanity like our world is made up of different components there are also different components in which contribute to insanity. insanity is also a prolonged condition not a impulse as in many legal cases where individuals claim temp. insanity. that is impulsive action and poor judgement without a sense of control or conscious thought aka insanity .correction- this a form of insanity.
p.s. for the few who are able to regain control and are aware that they have croosed the line are usuall those who tend to pay close attention to their own thoughts words and deeds. soory for the lack of refinement in the answering of this question but i am in a state of fatigue. Insanity is a generic term used to describe someone whos thought process fall outside the norms of society. Incorrectly, it is used as a term to describe people suffering from a variety of mental illnesses. Having a mental illness does not mean you are insane but certain mental illnesses can lead to or cause "insanity".

there are chemical imbalances in some cases, but i do not believe that any of the diseases defined by an inability to follow social norms are valid. Some people are different and if they weren't we wouldn't have most of the art or science we have now.
