never heard of marshall's day, the only link could find was about memorial day on marshall square?

Actually the original celebration of memorial day was called something along the lines of "Decorate the memorials/tombstones/plots", and was seen as honoring former soldiers/troops who had died for us.
People would actually decorate the burial sites/graves to honor these lost in battle for celebration.
