Haunting, moving, melancholly but comforting ... yeah, I love her voice. I was so in love with her as a teenager. Well, she and Olivia Newton John. She and her brother really had it going. Karen seemed to be unable to accept her success.
But I still love to hear her voice now and again. Superstar was her best sad song. We've Only Just Begun was a great uplifting song, even with her dark, low tones.

Karen Carpenter, though sadly becoming forgotten, had one of the most amazing and moving voices of all time.
As for the sad part ... she was certainly no stranger to a sad song.

Straight to your heart! Happens to me when I listen to that Carpenters' tune "Let Me be the One" Sung by Matthew Sweet on the CD "If I Were a Carpenter"--It came out in Sept 1994, Various Alternative Artists performing Carpenters' hits!

I'm not really a Carpenters fan; their tunes were too "easy" for my taste. But I will concede that Karen had the most expressive and note-perfect voice ever.

I met Richard once. He graduated from my college so he played a concert with our orchestra (music major I am). Nice guy. And yeah, Karen's voice was magic. Her life story is so sad.

karen carpenter had a beautiful voice... i think the sadness that came thru her songs came from the sadness within her and her never being truly happy in her own life. she was one of those talented people that could express what she was feeling thru her songs.

I'm sorry, but she really creeps me out. Anytime my husband puts her music on, I scream at him to please turn it off. Maybe because I was aneorexic on college, and she just hits too close too home.
