I think cursing & nudity/gratuitous sex could be left out of movies completely & not be missed at all. If the writers can't come up with a more intelligent way for the actors to speak, then they need to go back to school & learn grammar & English all over again. It's not necessary to cuss to make your point. As far as the sex goes, same thing - most of the time it's not germane to the plot & if the movies got better ratings (PG versus R) more people could see the film.

No...only because that's not realistic. If it's a kid's movie or there specifically gearing a movie towards kids/young adults or religious types sure - leave the cursing out. But let's be realistic here, most people curse. At least the ones I know and if art imitates life...you gotta keep it real. I don't think it should replace true dialogue though. Every other word out of a person's mouth isn't usually a curse word. Really depends on the setting of a movie. If the movie is about gangsters, I'm pretty sure they probably curse a lot. So as long as the dialogue is realistic, not extreme one way or the other, I don't have a problem with it.

It looks like most people think cussing should be left in cause everyone cusses in real life. to an extent that is true at some points everyone cusses or uses replacement words that mean the same thing as the cuss words. but in the movies every other word is a cuss word it seems. in my opinion cussing is just using certain words to vent and imply how upset you are. but you certainly can't go using them all the time. how many of us would be fired if we wnet around talking like that. but the cool thing about movies is it isn't real life. if the cussing bothers you turn it off. Personally the cussing does bother me sometimes but if it is a good enough movie i'll tolerate it. the ones that bother me most are the gratuetous sex scenes that take 15 minutes. if i want to see that i would have gone and rented a porn thank you very much.

I don't mind cursing in films, but at the same time I don't believe it actually adds any artistic value to a film. In certain movies or scenes, it seems like it's filler. Take the cussing away and how many actual words would you have? Take one of my favorite movies Sneakers (Robert Redford, Dan Akroyd, River Phoenix) an excellent plot, stellar acting and almost no curse words! More empasis on plot and characters..

I think if we take out cursing then the movie isn't depicting how people are in real life. It is unfortunate but everyone curses once or so in their life. I can't imagine watching a movie and someone getting mad and yelling out "Fiddle sticks" or "cheese in crackers" . Cursing is a way of life.

I think many times profanity is used because writers can't think of anything intelligent to say. I have watched so many movies that were totally appropriate for my son to watch -- except there so was profanity. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an uptight prude but lacing a converstation with profanity is just a sign of weak communication and interpersonal skills.

Yes, mostly. Ever seen "Running Scared"? Everyone shouts F*CK! every other word and it's just stupid. Real people don't talk like that. Real people swear once or twice or three times, but not every other word for like 2 hours. It just makes the movie suck.
