no, it cannot go inside a wall..it will always be stopping up. Chutes need to be a minimum of about 12 -16" in either direction to avoid clothes hanging up. The inside of the chute must be very smooth its entire run, or it will ruin fabric, and make fabric hangup in it. Good luck

My laundry chute was included in the original construction and uses the return air chase to avoid the "thin wall" problem.

No, it can't, the dimensions inside a wall are only about 3 1/2 inches deep and about 14" wide. Not enough room to slide our clothes down, with out haning up.
You would have to have new construction performed, and that's not cheap.
