Paternity test will test the DNA of the child against the DNA of the fathers. This is very common.

Birth Certificate is just based on what the hospital was told at the time of birth. Once you have the DNA results, you can submit the results to have the birth certificate changed.

if bloodline is an issue, why is it being questioned, for the sake of inheritance? or other factors? most courts will fight dna tests in paternity suites if the child has bonded with father, biological or not, part of this goes to reason of harm done to child if all that he/she has learn has in effect been a lie, so courts opt to err for te sake of the child on paternity, even though dna may counter . in the state of washington for example, the laws there err for the side of bonding child to any man, if you are a single man and hok up with a single mother, and the child bonds with you, like it or not the courts over there view you as bonded to the child, and thus liable for child support, you need not be married. DNA may actually establish biological identity, but may not be the final end for identifcation if enough time has passed.

DNA wins EVERY time, no matter whose name is on birth certificate.
