Very nice art. Way to go! Hey, I'm 44 and all I've got is one lousy pierced earlobe.
Go for it....body modification is way cool.
Just know that our tongues have major nerves and blood vessels packed in them, so your artist better know his or her stuff!!

Its not that bad! it hurts, ya but i think getting a tat hurts more. Bite down on your tongue real hard thats about how it feels. 1st they use these clamps to hold your tongue in place ( i think that hurts more then the actual peircing. The clamp has a hole in the middle of it and thats where they stick the jewlry thru. Before they do all that they give u a plastic bag to hold under your mouth so you dont drowl all over yourself cause you have your mouth open and tongue sticked out the hole time. Then after words your tongue might be sore for, at the most a week. When you eat, talk or anything you use your tongue with it will get sore. And you have rinse your mouth all the time. But its so worth it.

To be honest its my least painful piercing, and i have a few. They numb your tongue with a spray and to be honest its over quicker than you can think
"oh **** there's a needle heading towards my face"
I'm not going to lie, the swelling was a pain in the next few days following the piercing. It was uncomfortable more than anything but the swelling went down within a week (just keep sucking on ice) and i got the bar swapped for a smaller one. The big bar was just plain annoying!
I also have to admit i have chipped a few teeth. Only small bits of enamel but strangely enough my dentist is more concerned about my labret piercing than my tongue stud.
I say go for it.. your only as old as you feel and body mods are great no matter how old you are or what gender!
good luck

It's a very quick process and if you were able to sit through your tatts, you'll be fine with getting your tongue pierced. If you wear the correct sized jewellery you shouldn't have too many problems. Usually the initial jewellery will be longer to allow for swelling. Once that goes down, you downsize the bar. Usually they tell you to come back in a couple of weeks to get a smaller bar. All the best.

A girl I know wanted a piercing. I wanted to watch and the first second looked pain full. Kind of like getting a flu shot with an extra large needle from a new nurse. After the initial rush she was fine.
Make sure they keep things clean.

There are safety issues to be aware of.
Check out the link.
Bottom line is that you'll experiencing a lot of discomfort and for what?
A fashion statement?
Well, it may be your body and you have a right to do with it what you will...but you've already been through the pain of tattoos and at least one piercing...so why so concerned over a tongue pierce?

Hello. I am the same age as you have had my nipples, & lip pierced but my daughter has had her tongue pierced. She explained that it was scarier looking at the piercing needle than actually feeling it go in. Several friends that have it state it is a sharp pinch, then gone. The worst part is the next 3 days of swelling & a possible sore throat. Enjoy! ;)

tongue rings aren't that great. I had one but removed it. I got tired of the metal hitting my dental work. Food kept getting into the post and got my tongue infected.
There's swelling for the first 3 days and eating is a chore because you need to chew really carefully. Sometimes you bite hard on the stud and you might chip a tooth.
I'd say SKIP IT.

The pierce itself is nothing. Your skin is in so much shock that you dont feel it for like an hour. The worst part is the swelling afterwards. It will stay swollen for about 3 days. I have heard that they found a way to numb it, its worth looking in to.
P.S. For all of you that suggest that she is too old, she did not ask you what she should do, its obvious to me that her mind is made up. Besides its her body. Maybe its you that needs to do the growing up?
