It's a reflection of that person's lifestyle which often predicts a persons: irresponsibility, laziness, immaturity... All things being equal, employers would rather higher non-smokers.

Because it can affect your ability to work.

There was a study done awhile back with pilots. They had the pilots fly once, with no weed in their system, then once after smoking and once a week later after smoking. Guess what the found? The pilots were just as impaired a week after the smoked the weed as they were when they were still high. That is why employeers care if you are doing illegal drugs.

Employers have fallen victim to D.E.A. propaganda. They, like one of the other answers i read are under the impression that the effects of the drug last for days. This is wrong. The effects are gone after about five hours. A great number of pot smokers are responsible and productive members of society. I would recommend going to one of the pro mmj sites and read. Everything you might want to know is there. The source listed below also has links or locations for their articles or opinions on the scientific aspects and /or outright lies from our selectively illiterate government sources on the subject. Refusing to read a study does not give the government or its (very well) paid mouthpieces the authority to lie to the public. There are eleven or twelve states that agree with me they have mmj laws that allow use as medicine. In my opinion the only reason it is illegal is the fact that the pharmaceutical companies can't profit from it. and they pay the government through lobbyists(bribes) and campain contributions to keep it illegal.Read the reports from The Lancet or the reports from the medical research from other countries on the subject but unfortunately our government has been caught in too many outright lies on the subject. Don't believe me...just go read

An employee may do drugs at home right before they go to work and will end up driving to work under the influence. Also, that employee may be a danger to others at his/her place of employment if he/she shows up under the influence. Depending on how much of the drug the person has taken it could affect the person's functioning for hours after. It is a liability for employers, especially of the employer is a transportation department or school district.

Well, as they say, what you don't know won't hurt you. Don't even have to lie or be dishonest unless asked.
