Someone who uses technology … a technician who is primarily concerned with the physical aspects of technology …. as opposed to and engineer who would typically be more involved with the theoretical, design, analysis and management of the technology - in the UK the terms have unfortunately become interchangeable.. It’s a big no no to call a 'real' engineer a thchie. An engineer typically has a minimum of a BSc or a BEng, a techie (or technician) typically has an HNC, HND or hands on experience.

Techie is a term, derivative of the word technology, for a person that displays a great, quite possibly even obsessive, interest in technology, as well as high-tech devices, particularly computers. Notably, techies express a disregard for any technology that could possibly be considered obsolete, even if the technology or process in question might only be considered obsolete within the techie community. Consequently, techies are also often early adopters. With the increased spending power of techies, a few media outlets exist that cater solely to them, most notably Wired, Slashdot, and, while it existed, TechTV. Techies are usually considered to be geeks or nerds; however, the reverse is not necessarily true and more people who would not be considered "geeks" are becoming techies, especially with the advancement of technology in recent years.

Dont know if this is whatt you was looking for. Bit of a bore really innit

Well, "techie" is a term used to describe someone who is very proficient with many types of technology. In our theatre we use the term "techie" to classify those who work behind the scenes. For example, our techies program the lights, run the light design, set the lights up, run sound, find sounds, make the scenery, etc. Someone who does the work with computers, sound boards, light boards etc.

Hope I've helped.
