My friend Alexis (who still doesn't have a yahoo account) is 15 and she doesn't have her period yet. Are there any reasons why girls get their period at a late age? Thanx

It's just genetic, and also related to body-fat. (Very thin girls often start later).

15 is still totally normal. Lots of girls don't get a period until they're 15 or 16 and there's nothing wrong with them.

I didn't get my period till I was almost 16. Girls start their periods when they have a certain percent of body fat on them. That is why overweight or bigger girls can start at like 11 or 12. Anorexic girls can even stop their periods completely until they get back up to the body fat their body needs. Is your friend really fit? Track runners and athletes usually don't start till they are 15 or 16 because they are in real good shape. I hope this answered your question.

I started very late and was irregular until I was almost 21... my gyn said it had to do with body weight... apparently there is a magical number, like 103 pounds, when the body starts to physically mature and mentruation begins. It made sense because I was only 100 pounds until my last year in college when I grew 2 inches and put on 10 pounds.
