Where would they find unsterilzed needles? All of the medical stuff is one-time use these days. There isn't a huge market for "unsterilized needles" except at a smack house. They probably just buy the cheapest needles they can use, which are probably sterilized.

The reason they use sterile needles is pretty simple. Handling dirty or non-sterile or used needles is a health hazard. Sure, who cares about the convict right? What about the person who has to handle the needles in preparation for the administration of said injection?

What if the prisoner gets pardoned after the needle is in, but before the actual injection? IF it were you, I bet you'd hope for a sterile needle.

I think it's more ethical to do it that way. Although there's nothing ethical about killing someone, sterilizing the needle before the injection suggests that they are treating the person as they would anyone else.

Well.. think about a needle being used over and over for the injection.. it would get pretty nasty after a while. Now think about someone sticking that needle in your arm. It would be quite distressing psychologically, and that's considered 'cruel and unusual', which is a no-no in our society.

For liability reasons. So that everyone knows that the person died the way intendend and not through another cause. Could you imagine the settlement to the family of the person who died from a dirty needle?!?!?!

In case, during the procedure, the condemned gets a pardon (temporary or permanent). If he's not fully gone and the order goes through, they'll try to recussitate.

Because they make it as humane as possible (ironically), but more than half of the time they mess up anyway. And of course it is cruel and unusual punishment because a lot of the times it s not done correctly.

I think the death penalty should be abolished, but if it's going to keep being used, just put a gun to the criminal's head the minute he / she is found guilty and get it all over with.

Crazy isn't. why do they say its cruel and unusual punishment. I think if they did it more often it wouldn't be that unusual. Cruel is what the guy did to get there in the 1st place.
