i dont want to get braces!?

Im 18 years old and im about to get braces. i dont want to get them because im scared that ppl will think im dorky and weird. since ppl only get braces when they are like 14 or 15. my BF sister has braces and shes 21. they dont look ugly or dorky, but maybe its just because shes pretty. do you think that ppl will make fun of me and think im dorky or anything like that??? is it ok for an 18 yrs old to have them and still have a normal social life? thanks!

I don't think its dorky So many people have them and they are all different ages! You should get them because if you don't you might regret not getting them!

Go for it! Who doesn't want a gorgeous row of straight teeth? You wouldn't be wearing them for that long a period, the time will fly and the results that you'll have will last a lifetime hopefully. If you're very self concious about them, why not enquire about less noticable braces. I've seen some people with clear ones and I think you can even get the ones that go behind your teeth. They may be more expensive but find out because you never know. If you have private health insurance maybe you might be covered under your policy so that could also bring the cost down. If you're happy with how your teeth are now and you really don't want braces, you may as well put that money towards something else. But if straight teeth is a persuit for you, go for it. Take some before and after shots if you do! All the best.

if people make fun of you for having braces they have a problem! people get braces at all stages of life, i actually work w/ a woman who's in her 50's and just got hers on last year. braces are totally worth the look and the pain. and if you're still not sure maybe see about getting the invisalign invisible retainers you can take out. i know that cost a bit more and it will take longer to get the results but it could be a better option for you. but i definitely think you should go for it b/c you will be so happy to have a beautiful smile when it's all over, i know i am!

Get Invisalign, its the proper situation in the international! i'm getting a clean set each 2 weeks, have been given into the orthodontist so he can verify my enamel each month and purely provides me 2 greater pairs. Its basically for fifty weeks! the 1st day or so u sense some tension yet thats it. Ppl tell me braces kil! Braces, if u have delicate enamel, like me, might reason everlasting marks on ur enamel, invisalign doesnt. Braces u cant consume what ever u choose, invisalign u purely pop on and stale. Braces harm to get tightened, no longer invisalign. all and sundry with braces continually say the wires scratch them and that they bleed, no longer invisalign. Invisalign u cant see, noone knows I even have them till i tell them. Someoen advised me they have been invisable to others yet i didnt believ it till i've got been given it. Braces look grotesque those dont. My guy advised me that braces might desire to take a minimum of two yrs. Invisalign 50 weeks,and not lookign grotesque! additionally I even have TMJ with potential i think i grind my enamel and my jaw snaps as quickly as I open mouth, and invisalign facilitates that situation, braces dont. If no longer for invisalign i might wish a evening gaurd which expenditures $500, and if i'm getting braces my enamel shift so i might wish a minimum of two or 3 and invisalign is purely a grand greater (i think of it became 5,000 as unfavorable to $4000 with barces). Wow, i could like make a commercial for them or some thing!

Don't worry. I worked in an Ortho office and we did braces on people of ALL ages! Even one woman in her 60s! You will look so much better afterwards-IT IS WORTH IT1 I have seen grown men crying tears of joy when they had got their braces off b/c they loved the results so much! We had many beautiful people get braces and it did not make them dorky. One girl said her boyfriend thought hers were so cute he didn't want her to get them off! If you are that insecure about them, look into Invisalign or clear brackets instead of metal. The wire will still be metal but the rest will be clearish.

I'm 18 and mine will get off in January or February. I have had them since February 2005 when I was 17 and a junior in high school. I couldn't imagine myself going to college with braces until I went to a college visit and one of the students there who was talking had braces. Don't worry about it. Just think, would you rather have a couple years of metal in your mouth or messed up teeth. I would rather have metal in my mouth for a couple of years.

I would hope that at your age the people you hang around with are more mature then that. Braces shouldn'd change the way they treat you. I know a lady that is in her 50's that has braces!

Dont worry they will look fine. My sister is on her 5th year of braces and shes 20. So who cares what other people think your teeth will look great when your done!! Then who will be laughing at you?

Yeah, its okay. At least your not 40 and have braces...that would look kinda weird. But braces arent a bad thing to get. Plus they have invisible braces now.

Take your lumps now or you'll regret it later. Ugly teeth can make a person ugly (look at Sweet Elliot on American Idol; beautiful guy, beautiful voice, beautiful family, and some FUGLY teeth). If you don't do it now, you'll likely come up with excuses the rest of your life to not get it taken care of. If you do it now, you'll still be young by the time their off!
